Our Story

At the dawn of time, (no, really it was 1932) Jim's Transfer was established in Hillyard, Washington. Their primary function was the transportation of concrete throughout eastern Washington, including the immense Grand Coulee Dam project.

The company decided to expand their services, so they moved to the Spokane Valley and became an agent for Atlas Van Lines. Jim's Transfer was purchased by the DeVries family in 1981, this was the beginning of a family legacy. We changed our name to DeVries Moving Packing Storage in 1988, and now, with our team of 22 long haul drivers, and 30 dedicated local personnel, we provide relocation services worldwide, as well as just around the corner.

Bill DeVries, who originally bought the company, passed away in late 2009. He loved DeVries Moving and worked at the business until he became too sick. Most people who knew Bill said he was one of the nicest men you could ever meet.

Since 1981, we have moved several offices ranging from 5 employees to over 500. We handled everything from packing, moving and setting up their new locations. And you thought it was hard to keep track of the bolts for your bed frame! We even moved the Spokane Public Library, twice.

We have done relocations for a wide variety of organizations including:
  • Spokane Economic Development Council
  • Rockwood Clinic
  • Gonzaga University
  • Spokane Chamber of Commerce
  • Lewis and Clark High School
  • Boy Scouts
  • Bloomsday
